Dimitris Saravanos,

Currently a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics at The University of Patras, Greece. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University in 1988. After that, he worked for almost 10 years as a Researcher with the Structural Mechanics Branch of the Structures Division at NASA Glenn (formerly Lewis) Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, on various projects in the areas of composite mechanics and smart materials & structures. Subsequently, he joined the faculty of U. Patras, where he is teaching courses in Finite Elements, Structural Analysis and Composites. He has been an associate fellow of AIAA and active member of ASME. He has published over 45 articles in reputed international journals and presented more than 70 conference papers in the areas of composite damping, optimal design of composites, smart composites and laminated piezoelectric structures. His current research interests are in the areas of mechanics of composite materials and structures, smart materials and structures, and structural health monitoring.
